Santana is een latin rockband die eind jaren zestig is opgericht door Carlos Santana; gitarist, naamgever en de enige constante factor in alle samenstellingen die deze band heeft gekend. 
 In 1966 richtte Carlos Santana samen met bassist David Brown en toetsenist Gregg Rolie de Santana Blues Band op. Hoewel de band de naam van Carlos Santana droeg (het was van de muzikantenvakbond verplicht om de band naar de muzikale leider te noemen) was het meer een collectief zonder leider. Na verloop van tijd werd de naam ingekort tot Santana en op 16 juni 1968 maakte de band zijn debuut in de Fillmore. In 1969 maakte Carlos Santana zijn albumdebuut op The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper van Mike Bloomfield en Al Koope
