Western music, since the time of Bach, has been created using a "tempered octave" - a tuning method which makes slight alterations to the natural intervals between notes in a scale. Alternatively, North Indian Classical Music is based on the "natural octave," which uses compromised musical intervals, as they occur in nature. Ancient sages created healing compositions called Ragas which use specific melodic structures within this natural tuning system to bring the body and mind into harmony with itself and with nature.
