Don Vito Corleone staat aan het hoofd van een maffia familie in New York. Als een gangster van een andere familie besluit drugs te gaan verkopen in heel New York, ontstaan er problemen. Don Vito is tegen de handel in drugs en laat dit ook blijken. Dit leidt tot een poging om hem te vermoorden. Daarna wordt één van Don Vito's adviseurs gekidnapt, om zo z'n zoon te dwingen de drugsverkoop goed te keuren.
