Post Description

Sinead O'Connor returns from her three-year hiatus after 1994's UNIVERSAL MOTHER with a quietly powerful EP. She explores her favorite lyrical themes, including motherhood, love, Ireland, and self reliance, from a newly mature point of view. The powerful, clean production allows O'Connor's lovely melodies to shine through the deep underlying sadness.

The personal is always political on GOSPEL OAK, but the metaphors are never forced; on "This is a Rebel Song," O'Connor sings in a voice so delicate and sweet that it nearly belies the song's title. In her direct confrontation of England, she uses personal relationships to symbolize the complicated relations between Ireland and England, all the while singing in one of the most powerful, versatile, and emotion-laden voices in modern music.
